ARANSAS PASS, Texas — The Sandra Sue Benson Adoption Center is the only no kill non-profit animal shelter in San Patricio County and has faced several challenges.
The non-profit went through Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and is currently dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, because of those circumstances they have not been able to properly host their annual fund raising event.
Kyla Eidson a kennel tech with the center said it has been rough.
"It’s been tough, usually we have casino nights and do fundraisers and even silent auctions, but because of COVID, we weren’t able to do that, so it’s been a rough patch."
Six puppies were recently found on the side of the road with the Parvo Virus and received care at a Corpus Christi animal hospital, the cost is over 1800 dollars.
Patty Heard the Director SPCA in San Patricio County said people have chipped in to help.
"We've been taking in monetary donations to help take care of them, so far we are up to about 1,070 dollars"
If you would like to donate supplies to the shelter or make a monetary donation, you can call them at (361)-442-1445.
