CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After the tragic stabbing at a Walmart in Calallen, the community has come together for the victim, Gabriel Cooley.

Many services have been held, including a prayer service at Journey Church.

The church began prayer services every Wednesday at noon for the past several weeks to pray for the community because of the pandemic.

This Wednesday's service was held to remember Cooley.

"We wanted to devote the prayer time that we have this Wednesday to Gabriel Cooley, to his memory," Pastor Gabriel Munoz said. "We want to bring the community of Calallen together."

In this prayer service, many members of the church said this was a time to pray for the younger generation as a whole.

Many feel that the younger generation has a lot of stress to do deal with. This was also a time for some to pray not only for Cooley but for the man charged with his murder, Billy Ferguson.

"A lot of times when bad things happen we usually pray for the family that had the loss," said Juan Vargas, who attended the prayer service. "But hardly ever is it thought about the family that is dealing with a loss, having a child that did something."

Vargas said not only should people pray for the families that are involved in this incident, but also the Calallen coaches and players that were closest to Cooley.

There will be a memorial service held for Cooley at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Calallen High School.
