CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The battle over Harbor Island redevelopment took another turn yesterday.
KRIS has learned the Port of Corpus Christi filed a lawsuit against the City of Port Aransas.
The lawsuit alleges the city broke the law in its attempt to stop the port's Harbor Island plans.
It also claims the city broke its lease agreement with the port for the marina, which the port owns.
That lease - signed in 2018 - included a clause which said the city wouldn't try to re-zone Harbor Island or restrict its development.
But last month, Port A passed a 60-day moratorium on permits for Harbor Island.
The port says that violated the marina lease and terminated the agreement.
We’ll be speaking with Port A's mayor to find out this means for his city.
And we’ll have more coming up this evening on KRIS 6 News.
A Port of Corpus Christi spokesperson told KRIS 6 News the port doesn't comment on ongoing lawsuits.
