CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A group of Alice residents have launched a petition drive to get the city to reopen the natatorium.
The Alice City Council recently voted to close down the $21million complex after a deal to lease it to the school district fell through.
The petition drive kicked off Tuesday night.
Volunteers say the facility has been used as a political pawn and that needs to stop.
They want it re-opened because it serves the entire community.
"Our natatorium encompassed everybody from water babies and guppy babies to elderly adults with special needs. We had people that had Parkinson, Autism, Alzheimer's, and everybody was being helped in a very positive way," said Belinda Silva, a concerned Alice resident.
Silva says the committee will continue to collect signatures for the next several days before deciding it's next move.
