One man is under arrest after Corpus Christi police said he and another man forced their way into a local pawn shop.

Lt. Art Trevino said the men entered the First Cash Pawn in the 4300 block of Ayers Street brandishing handguns as the store was getting ready to close. They demanded money and smashed display cases, taking jewelry, Trevino said, before they left the shop and fled behind the Portairs Shopping Center.

However, one of them didn't get far.

"Constables helped out greatly," he said. "One of the constables was actually working across the street at the bus station, so he immediately responded and was able to locate the two individuals."

Trevino said as soon as the suspects saw the constable, they ran.

One suspect was caught and is under arrest, facing charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
