One dead, another rescued following Bob Hall Pier incident

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — UPDATE (6:50 pm): The article has been updated to reflect one man was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. The other person that was pulled out of the water did not need medical care at the scene.

A man was pronounced dead at the hospital after he was pulled from the water near Bob Hall Pier.

Emergency crews responded to a call just after 2:02 pm Wednesday after receiving reports of a man and a woman needed rescue.

Lifeguards at the scene jumped into action and pulled a man out of the water, who was said to be unconscious.

First responders also pulled the woman from the water. Police say she was conscious and talking to emergency crews at the scene. The woman did not need medical care.

The man was transported to Bay Area Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Another Facebook post indicates that surf conditions at the time of the incident were red flag. That means the surf was considered to be high with strong currents.
