CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — County Judge Barbara Canales and several other employees at the Nueces County Courthouse are self-quarantining after another courthouse employee tested COVID positive.

The employee, who tested positive for COVID-19 Sunday and works in the emergency management team, is currently self-isolating at home.

As a precautionary measure, Canales and others on duty in the Nueces County Emergency Operations Center during Hurricane Hanna will be tested and quarantined as they await their results.

Canales consulted with the Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District to formulate a plan to assess the situation, identify at-risk personnel via in-house contact tracing, and authorize work from home for all at-risk personnel.

County officials say the employee works in an office that does not have a customer-related function.
