CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The Nueces County District Office has released a statement about Sunday's shooting involving a Corpus Christi police officer.

The shooting happened on Cuiper Street in the area of the Port/Ayers Shopping Center, near Fannin Elementary.

First Assistant DIstrict Attorney Matthew S. Manning stated in a news release that the D.A.'s office will review the evidence gathered by the Corpus Christi police department. After its review, the file will be presented to a Nueces County grand jury.

Manning urged anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact the CCPD Criminal Investigation Unit.

CCPD officers said when officers arrived at the scene Sunday night, the suspect had a baseball bat in his hand and was being aggressive.

The man walked toward Cuiper Park, ignoring several commands to drop the bat.

Four officers who were following the man all fired their TASERS, which reportedly had no effect.

The man continued to be aggressive and that's when one officer fired, hitting 22-year-old Emilio Mojica. He later died at a local hospital.
