NCSO Sgt. Raul Salazar dies from COVID-19 complications

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Nueces County community leader died Sunday morning due to complications to the novel coronavirus.

Sgt. Raul Salazar with the Nueces County Sheriff's Office battled with the coronavirus in the intensive care unit at Bay Area Hospital for the past three weeks. He was 52.

Salazar graduated from the Del Mar Regional Police Academy in May 1998. He soon worked for the Beeville and Kingsville Police Departments before working for the Kleberg County Sheriff's Department.

He joined the Nueces County Sheriff's Office as a deputy in 2013. After working his way up, Salazar was promoted to Sergeant in September 2017.

Memorial services and celebrations of life will be made once more information is available.
