CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's the time of year to give back and one special event on the westside today did exactly that.
The Westside Business Association teamed up with the Coastal Bend Food Bank to distribute gifts and food to families and kids. It's all part of the annual Navidad Los Ninos.
Organizers say they had to change up their format because of COVID-19.
Families drove up and were given food, Santa hats with candy for the kids, books and hand sanitizer.
Some lucky winners walked away with a bicycle or a Kindle e-reader.
“It's dear to our heart, because you know our goal is to helping out small businesses, helping out the community, the west side, but also education, and helping the children, because the west side has always been forgotten,” said John Garcia, president of the Westside Business Association.
Kids from every school on the west side were invited to the event.
Corporate sponsors of the event included the Port of Corpus Christi, Christus Spohn, H-E-B and Citgo.
Organizers say 100 kids won bicycles and 100 kids won Kindle e-readers.
