CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After taking several minutes to review the final vote count, Mayor Joe McComb had a strong reaction to his loss in his runoff bid for reelection.
"It’s unfortunate," he said. "I’m fine. I really feel sorry for the city. I think they’re going to be in some rough times ahead."
McComb criticized his opponent and now mayor-elect Paulette Guajardo and her campaign for what he considers a large war chest and untruthful advertising against him.
"When you’re up against a quarter of a million dollars and a bucket full of lies -- people will believe a lie when the truth would fit better," he said.
McComb took office as Corpus Christi Mayor in May 2017.
He's spent 20 years in public service at either the city or county level, but he's not sure what his future plans will be.
