Mathis Independent School District is delaying the start of classes today as a precaution after being informed a man considered armed and dangerous was in the area.
The man has since been located and arrested by another agency, but the delay remains in effect.
The district told KRIS Communications the district made the decision out of an abundance of caution for its parents and students, since the area the man was reported to be in is one frequently used as a route to its schools.
About 2 hours ago, Mathis Elementary posted the following statement on its Facebook page:
All MISD campuses will be on a late start.
Students arrive: 10:00 a.m.
Staff arrive: 9:40 a.m.
The building will not be open and there will be no staff on campus prior.
We will relay any updated information as it is received.
