KINGSVILLE, Texas — Lieutenant Junior Grade Madeline Swegle became the U.S Navy's first black female tactical jet pilot this month, and Friday she gets her wings.
Madeline Swegle finished all the requirements for the Tactical Air (Strike) aviator syllabus with the VT-21 Redhawks squadron.
"I hope that my legacy will be that there will be a lot of other women, minority women, different faces that come forward and /know that they have all the tools they need and follow their dreams," said Swegle to NBC news.
Swegle will receive her Wings of Gold this Friday at NAS Kingsville and will then be assigned to a specific jet before moving on to her next duty station.
