CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A well-traveled downtown street soon may have a new name.
The city council is considering a proposal to change the name of William Street, which runs from Shoreline Boulevard to lower Broadway, to Lomax Street.
It would be named in honor of the Lomax family, who have been primary benefactors of the city for many years. Most recently, Brad Lomax, who owns many businesses in the downtown area, including the Executive Surf Club and Water Street, which are currently on William Street.
William Street, by the way, was one of the city's original streets established in the 1852 plan of Corpus Christi.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story had the street confused with Williams Street, a southside thoroughfare that runs parallel with South Padre Island Drive.
