CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Locals took to the streets in downtown Corpus Christi Saturday to peacefully protest over the death of George Floyd.

The death of Floyd, who has local ties to the Coastal Bend, has sparked protests across the country, making national headlines.

Protesters were vocal about how this national issue also needs to be addressed locally.

"There's not a good understanding that even though you saw one video of one person dying," said protester Simone Sanders. "There are people in your own neighborhood who have been affected."

"All police aren't bad," said protester Terri Mitchell-Snyder. "My dad is a retired police chief so I know there are good cops out there. The problem is the good cops are silent and we have an issue with that."

The Corpus Christi Police Department released a statement Saturday regarding the issue.
