A man reportedly went on a thieving spree Friday afternoon after Corpus Christi Police Department officers say he stole a Domino’s Pizza delivery vehicle – and an older lady’s dog.
The robberies reportedly took place on Corpus Christi’s south side, near Weber and Saratoga. Police said the keys were left in the SUV.
They temporarily found the man after he reportedly was pulled over Department of Public Safety trooper for speeding.
“He gets pulled over by a DPS trooper for speeding,” said an officer at the scene. “This is before they put out the report of a stolen vehicle. Luckily, as soon as the DPS trooper cleared the traffic stop – I mean, like, immediately – he was listening to our radio, which they don’t have to do -- I applaud him for that -- and he heard the vehicle.”
The trooper alerted CCPD that he had just pulled over the vehicle, and it was found backed into a driveway on Hazel Drive near Woodlawn Elementary. Officers said it is unknown whether he has ties to the neighborhood, but that he does not own the house whose driveway he used.
Officers said the suspect fled on foot, jumped a fence, and was being tracked with a CCPD K-9 unit.
The elderly woman whose dog was taken was unharmed, but her dog still is missing.
"He got away with the dog, too," said the officer.
When caught, the thief is facing charges ranging from evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and charges related to stealing the dog.
