NUECES COUNTY, Texas — Nueces County-Corpus Christi Asst. Public Health director Dante Gonzalez says if the amount of flu cases appears to be down and lower from last year's flu numbers.

In a Zoom interview with KRIS 6 News, Gonzalez said a lot of the preventative measures for COVID-19, such as handwashing and wearing masks, are helping people protect themselves against the flu.

He added the department encouraged people to start getting flu shots when COVID-19 numbers were getting back in the summer so that if they did have to go to the hospital, they would be protected.

And of course, health experts are encouraging people to still get flu shots if they haven't already.
