CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE (3 p.m.): The sailor shot during Thursday's morning incident has been released from the hospital.

Authorities have confirmed that a female security guard working at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi was wounded in an incident at the facility earlier this morning.

The guard was wearing a protective vest and taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected thgo be released later today. She was an active member of the military, NAS-CC authorities confirmed.

An investigation is underway for a motive that led up to the incident at the facility.

According to NAS-CC, the Naval Security Forces at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi responded to an active shooter at approximately 6:15 a.m. Thursday. They added the shooter was "neutralized."

An eyewitness told KRIS 6 News they saw the shooter on the ground for some time and that a robot was later seen inspecting the body on the ground.

Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigators and and local law enforcement remain at the scene.
