KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Kingsville Police Department is reminding residents to only buy medications from reputable sources, as several probationers in Kingsville have tested positive for cocaine.

Chief Ricardo Torres said pills shaped and designed like Xanax, and believed to be Xanax, were being purchased and testing positive for cocaine. Six probationers denied ever having taken cocaine, but all said they were taking Xanax.

Xanax is an anti-anxiety medication also sold generically as alprazolam. Kingsville police said the pills look like alprazolam, but upon closer inspection, have a rougher texture.

"The safety and welfare of the community is paramount to our officers, so that they have brought this information forward," Torres said.

If you have any information as to who is shaping the pills, contact Kingsville Crime Stoppers at (361) 592-4636 or www.tipsubmit.com
