CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 28-year old man is dead after he broke into a home early this morning.
Police say the break-in happened on the 1300 block of 17th street just before 2 a.m.
The homeowner said she and six others were asleep, when the intruder broke in through a window.
The family took shelter in a back bedroom but their 73-year-old grandmother remained in her room.
She screamed as the intruder approached her, that's when three men came out of the back room and stabbed him.
The men held the intruder down until officers arrived.
"They defended themselves, did what they had to do to protect us because I have a 3-year old brother," said a woman who declined to be identified.
The intruder was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Other than a broken dresser and several broken dog cages, the family says no one was injured.
