A part of Incarnate Word Academy's history will soon be gone.

Crews are tearing down the convent at IWA on South Alameda.

According to an IWA spokesperson, in July 2015, the sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament moved to a new convent on Lipes Boulevard near Staples Street.

Since the old convent was no longer safe and taking up space on campus, the sisters decided to have it torn down.

According to a statement released by Denise Calderon, I.W.A. Media Relations Specialist:

"The Sisters continue to staff Incarnate Word Academy and serve in parishes in the Corpus Christi area. And recognizing the sentimental significance of this building, they hope that their true legacy will be recognized in the lives of the thousands of students who have attended Incarnate Word Academy over its 149-year history."
