CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In-person hearings and trials are being delayed once again in Nueces County.

According to Nueces County Court Manager Lily Fanning, in-person jury trials were to resume mid-February.

However, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, the City/County Health Department, along with Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, ordered all in-person hearings and jury trials to be canceled until May 1.

This includes all civil, criminal and family-law jury trials.

Fanning told KRIS 6 News that those involved in murder cases have all requested jury trials, meaning none of them have been tried.

As a result of the backlog in criminal cases, all civil cases will be pushed back.

Hearings and trials that are conducted through Zoom are streamed on YouTube and are available for the public.
