GREGORY, Texas — Today marks the start of a new beginning for an Exxon plant soon to be built in our area.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in Gregory later today.

When the plant is up and running, it's expected to bring 600 permanent jobs to the Coastal Bend and another 6.000 jobs during its construction.

Some information about the new Exxon-Mobil plant. Gulf Coast Growth Ventures got its necessary permits earlier this year to begin construction.

It will be a petrochemicals plant and will allow for the production of materials that can be used to make products like food packaging, medical equipment, car parts and more.

The plant is expected to be finished by 2022.

Today, we’ll learn more about the opportunities and economic development the plant will bring to our area.

We’ll tell you more about that this evening on KRIS 6 News.

The ground-breaking ceremony will begin in about 40 minutes at 12:45 p.m.
