The Gregory Police Chief has released the name of the construction worker who was killed in yesterday's trench collapse.
Gregory Police Chief Tony Cano has identified the victim as 36-year old Reynaldo Alaniz Rosalez, of Corpus Christi.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has an open and ongoing investigation into the incident. OSHA has up to six months to complete the investigation, said Juan J. Rodriguez, a spokesman for the U.S. Labor Department.
Cano said just before noon Tuesday, Cano and several construction workers with Kocurek Land Improvement, Incorporated were working at a worksite on the 47-hundred block of FM 2986 near the Glades of Gregory apartment complex.
Cano said construction workers were digging with a backhoe when a trench collapsed. When officers arrived, they found one man trapped, and several co-workers attempting to get him out. Emergency responders were able to free Rosalez from the trench. He was in cardiac arrest and being given chest compressions as he was transported to the Northshore Emergency Room in Portland where he was pronounced dead.
Two other workers, ages 57 and 33, were also injured. They were taken to Spohn Shoreline. They're expected to be okay.
