CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Memorial services for Officer Alan McCollum began at Church Unlimited last night, where more than 3,000 people came to pay their respects.
The viewing of Officer Mccollum was open to the public for a few hours before last night's private visitation service.
Several of McCollum’s family and friends described the late officer as they made their way into the church to pay their respects.
One woman told us she met McCollum while she was in the Citizens Police Academy. Another of his neighbors talked to us.
“He was always smiling,” friend Ana Pena said. “I mean he was just a beautiful person and I'm so sad that we've lost him."
Neighbor Fidel Silvas was touched by the outpouring of community support.
“It's overwhelming to see all the support they have, you know? he will be missed,” Silvas said. “It's hard. It's just great to see all the support from community and family and friends."
