CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There's some good news locally about the flu season.

Here in Nueces County, numbers are down.

There were 563 new cases were reported last week, compared to 749 the week before. That number is down nearly 25 percent from the previous week.

Federal health officials are warning that the influenza virus is active in most of the country.

The bad news?

The number of flu cases across country is up.

The Center for Disease Control says that 37 states are now reporting high flu activity.

That’s up from 28 states last week.

The number of suspected infections, however, suggests the flu season might be at its peak.
