CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hundreds of American flags have been placed at three parks along Ocean Drive as part of the Downtown Rotary Club of Corpus Christi’s ‘Flags for our Heroes’ campaign.

Each flag is sponsored for 50 dollars and honors a hero who has made an impact in someone’s life.

“Rotary serves in a lot of different manners, this is just one of our ways. This is to honor veterans, first responders and any hero in your life or any hero in your life that helps you or the world be a better place,” said Mike Kershaw, President of the Downtown Rotary Club of Corpus Christi.

Flags are placed along Ropes Park, Cole Park, and Oleander Point at Cole Park . A special virtual celebration will be held on November 9th, at 5:05 pm to commemorate all of the heroes being honored. Additionally, on Veterans Day November 11, the rotary club encourages everyone to drive by the flags from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for their ‘Honk Your Horn for Your Heroes’ event.

The rotary club says funds raised from this event will help pay for other projects they have throughout the year. You can find a list of all their events on their website.

The ‘Flags for our Heroes’ event is sponsored in part by American Bank, the City of Corpus Christi and KRIS-TV.
