CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The family of a 14-year-old shooting victim gathered Saturday night to remember him.

According to Corpus Christi police, Ivan Farias is behind bars at the Nueces County jail in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy Friday night in the 1900 block of Horne Road. Farias has been charged with manslaughter.

The family has identified the shooting victim as Joe "Jojo" Flores. A vigil was held today in his memory at Driscoll Middle School where several family members and his friends gathered to grieve.

“He was a kind wonderful kid,” his aunt Mary Ann Garcia said. “He loved sports, he loved doing little jobs like cutting the grass. He touched a lot of people.”

CCPD Senior Officer Travis Pace told KRIS 6 News that the department received a call at 6:06 p.m. on Friday for possible gunfire and people screaming at the 1900 block of Horne Road.

When officers arrived at the residence, they found several juveniles and a 14-year-old boy deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Pace said the scene was cleared and an investigation was conducted. CCPD investigators initially believed the shooting was an accident caused by juveniles playing with a gun.

Officers took several witnesses to the police station.
