SAN PATRICIO COUNTY, TEXAS — Investigators are releasing the latest information about an incident that left one woman injured by gunfire and a man dead from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

San Patricio County deputies along with officers with the Taft police department responded to a burglary inside an apartment in Sinton on Murray Street and County Road 631. Deputies say when they arrived at an apartment home, they were met by a man holding a gun.

Investigators say officers fired at the suspect as he retreated into the apartment. They added a woman was injured from gunfire as several shots were fired. She was taken to the hospital and is still in stable condition.

Police said the suspect barricaded himself in the apartment. The Texas DPS Special Response Team along with a negotiator were called to the scene. Officers later entered the apartment only to discover the suspected shooter was dead possibly due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Following departmental protocol, the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office says the deputy involved in the shooting was placed in administrative leave until the Texas Rangers conclude their investigation.

Deputies added there were no children involved in the incident.
