CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hundreds of cyclists laced up their shoes, strapped on their helmets and hit the pavement for the 16th annual Conquer the Coast Ride.

They began on Ocean Drive, but there were three more routes to take.

Such as a 10-mile, 21-mile and a 66-mile route.

And if you didn’t know -- that equaled an entire look around Corpus Christi Bay starting from here at home to Port Aransas and back.

One family we met up with says they choose to take part in today's event in remembrance of a loved one who liked to ride and took part in this course many times.

“Gabe was my son,” Samuel Rodriguez said. “Hekris.harris.mos was challenged, overcame a lot of adversities and he passed away on Super Bowl Sunday. And he did Conquer the Coast three times, he loved to ride.”

Organizers say this event is known as one of the most unique rides in Texas and continues to grow every year.
