UPDATE (4-8-22):
The man who was found shot underneath a car port on Maryland Drive has been identified as 42-year-old Brandon Edwards.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A man is dead after a shooting in a Corpus Christi neighborhood, and police have not caught the gunman.
The Corpus Christi Police Department got a call about shots being fired in the 1400 block of Maryland Drive just before 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
When they got there, they found a man who'd been shot dead underneath a car port.
CCPD Public Information Officer Michael Pena estimates the man was in his mid-30s, but he didn't know if he lived at that house.
More importantly, he didn't know why someone would shoot him.
“It’s very limited information," Pena said. "We’re asking for the community’s help. If they have any information about this to please contact us.”
If you have information, you can reach CCPD by calling 361-886-2600.
Pena did not release any information about the gunman, but he did have this message for people who live in this neighborhood.
“I don’t know if they should necessarily be worried tonight," Pena said. "You know, again, it’s so early in the investigation. It’s hard to tell. I would say, ‘No.’ I really would."
It's reassurance to those neighbors, but a woman who lives across the street is still uneasy.
“We hear gunshots here and there, and we never know what’s going to happen," Tiffany Perales said. "It’s scary sometimes. We’re scared to come outside at night, because we never know what’s going to happen."
