CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — A man arrested in a home invasion from Wednesday evening has now been named a murder suspect.
Police say in September, the suspect killed 36-year-old Jason Herrera.
38-year old Gerardo Cortez has been charged with murder.
Cortez also had multiple other outstanding warrants against him.
Cortez was caught Wednesday after three armed men forced their way into a home on the 4600 block of Kirkwood Drive just before 5 pm Wednesday. According to Nueces County Jail records, Cortez was brought to the facility Wednesday and charged with burglary of a habitation, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, engaging in organized criminal activity, as well as murder. His bond was set at $775,000.
Police also arrested and booked 38-year old Deanna Lopez, who was waiting inside a car. Lopez is charged with drug possession.
Police are still hunting for two suspects in that home invasion that left two people hurt last night. Police aren't sure if anything was taken from the home because the victims are not cooperating.
In reference to the homicide investigation in September, police have released images of a vehicle used in the homicide.
