CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Capital murder suspect Jordan Gosson has been found mentally competent to stand trial for an April 2018 double murder.
Gosson is one of six men charged in the deaths of Arturo and Miriam Lopez.
Prosecutors say Gosson is one of three men who fired the fatal shots during the Balchuck Lane home invasion.
Besides capital murder, Gosson also is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
In mid-August, Gosson asked for a mental examination to see if he was competent to stand trial.
This morning, Gosson's attorney notified the judge that a psychiatrist found Gosson was sane and competent.
There's no word yet on when he'll go to trial.
Meanwhile, another defendant in the case, Adrian Olivarez, appeared in court on Oct. 3. He was charged with capital murder and engaging with in organized criminal activity.
During that hearing, he agreed to take a plea deal.
As part of the agreement, Olivarez will testify against the three suspected gunmen - Gosson, Ausencion Acosta and Trebor Wheeler.
In exchange for his testimony. he was allowed to plead guilty to a lesser charge of murder and a charge of engaging in organized crime.
The other suspects in this case are Robert Lopez and Ismael Castillo.
