UPDATE: 10/13/2023
A Corpus Christi man who was shot four times in a carjacking on the city's west side on October 2 will require intense physical therapy after being released from a local hospital on Sunday.
According to the Vannoy family, Fred is a veteran and has been a cab driver with Green-n-Go Cab for 20 years, and he is known to the community as a kind and friendly guy. They cannot comprehend how someone could harm Fred, stealing his cab at gunpoint and leaving him with several gunshot wounds.
"He is going home on Sunday. He is healing very well. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. Anything helps to help pay for medical bills and supplies that he will need, such as a wheelchair ramp and other essentials," said Debbie Vannoy, Fred's wife.
The Vannoy family said there had been no arrests in the October 2 carjacking, but detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department continue to follow leads in the case.
Debbie said she and her family are preparing to bring Fred home from the hospital and are planning to host a benefit for Fred in the next couple of weeks.
"He's gonna have to go through some pretty intense therapy when he gets out of the hospital. This man is a veteran. He served our country for all of us, and these young kids that have no care in the world do this to an innocent man," added Debbie.
Debbieshared a GoFundMe page the Vannoy family created in order to cover some of the medical expenses the family incurred during this tragedy.
