On Monday, Brooks County officials along with District 15 U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez received a check for renovations to the Brooks County Veterans of Foreign Wars Lopez-Williams post in Falfurrias.

The post was built in 1974, but will be completely rebuilt with a new foundation, new walls, new electrical work and a brand new A/C unit.

The funding, which totals $304,454, was made possible by the U.S. House of Representatives passing Seven-Bill Appropriations Package for fiscal year 2022.

VFW Post 7634 Commander David Carvajal said the post already has some bookings for next year, when it is slated to reopen, after residents caught wind of their renovation plans.
