CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Two fishermen were rescued from the waters after their boat crashed into a gas platform.

The crash happened in the waters close to the Cos Way Bait & Tackle around 2:55 am Friday.

Chief Dale Scott of the Nueces County Emergency Service District No. 2 said a fisherman fishing from a pier heard a 24-foot boat pass by and then heard a loud crash. It took search crews 15 minutes to discover two men who were holding on to a gas platform.

One person had an injury to his leg and another man had a laceration to his forehead. Medics say hypothermia had already started to set in when both men were pulled out of the water.

"They got very lucky," Scott said. "If the people on the pier didn't hear the crash, they would still be in the waters. "

The two men were treated at the Cos Way Fishing Pier Bait & Tackle. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The men on the boat told first responders their steering wheel malfunctioned.

Game Wardens with Texas Parks and Wildlife will investigate the boat crash. The U.S. Coast Guard will remove that boat.
