ODESSA, Texas — An Alice man is among the victims of Saturday's mass shooting in Odessa.

It was just another day at work for Robert Cavazos, a husband and father of two, when the unimaginable happened.

He was inside his company vehicle when shots were fired during the drive-by shooting, and a bullet went through his truck and hit him.

Cavazos works for a company called Rig Runner. It's based in Alice but on the day of the shooting, he was doing work for the company in Odessa.

A spokesperson for the company says two managers left today to visit Cavazos at the Odessa Hospital where he continues his recovery.

Although the tragedy unfolded nearly seven hours away in West Texas, it still has sent shock waves throughout the Alice community.

"We're just so sad for this to happen on small towns... I hope that he recovers real fast, and we're so sorry that happened to the family," said Adan Garcia, an Alice resident.

"The Alice Police Department supports the Cavazos family... Well wishes, hope he gets through a speedy recovery," said Rene Garcia, a corporal for the Alice Police Department.

Cavazos has undergone surgery after the shooting. We're told he's doing well and is expected to be okay.

The Alice Echo News reported Cavazos was shot in the stomach.
