2 arrests made in the murder case of Rebecca Maloney

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — The Aransas Pass Police department have made additional arrests in murder case of Rebecca Maloney.

Jaime Garcia, 41, and Luis Perez, 44, both are in police custody.

Aransas Pass police, working with the help of the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, arrested Perez in the 6500 block of Samba Drive in Corpus Christi.

On Jan. 29. the Aransas Pass Police Department arrested Luis Garza-Gonzalez in the case. Police said Garza-Gonzalez, 33, is a confirmed Texas Syndicate gang member.

APPD detectives have uncovered evidence and witness statements showing that Garza-Gonzalez is directly involved in the shooting death of Maloney, police said. Evidence points to the murder happening during the weekend of Jan. 18.

The 29-year-old Maloney's remains were found in a toolbox on Jan. 21 along Railroad Street near downtown Aransas Pass.

The toolbox was reported to police by a witness just after 5:45 p.m. on that date, north of East Wheeler Avenue in Aransas Pass.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a female inside the toolbox.

Police said she had been dead for at least several hours and had obvious signs of injury to her body.

On the next day, police said family members concerned about a missing relative were able to identify the woman as Maloney.

Police have said the medical examiner said that the victim died of a gunshsot wound to the head.
