CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Sinton restaurant got quite a surprise when an Academy Award-winning director and a bishop emeritus walked through its doors.

Cavaleri's Kitchen employees said they had two special guests for lunch this Father's Day weekend -- actor and "The Passion of the Christ" director Mel Gibson, and Bishop Emeritus René Gracida.

"Bishop Gracida, thank you for introducing us to Mel and his family," the post reads. "It was a wonderful day! We may have to change our Veal Picatta to Mel's Picatta and Bishop Gracida Parmigiana."

Cavaleri's Kitchen owners Scott and Lesly Sence tell KRIS 6 News Gracida is a regular customer, and that he and Gibson have been close for years.

On this visit, he decided to bring along an old friend, they said.

Gibson is well-known for playing characters on the silver screen like "Max Rockatansky" in the Mad Max series, and "Martin Riggs" in the Lethal Weapon series.

Gracida, who is a World War II veteran, was the Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi from 1983-1997.
