CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 24-year-old Austin man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 77 about two miles north of Sarita in Kenedy County.

Gabrael Brito of Ausin was a passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene in an accident that occurred about 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 13.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Nathan Brandley said the 2005 Dodge Durango was occupied by a male driver and seven passengers and was traveling south on U.S. 77. The vehicle's left rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle before it overturned multiple times.

Brandley said passengers were transported to both Kleberg Christus Spohn Hospital in Kingsville and Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi for further treatment. None of the other passengers received life-threatening injuries in the accident, Brandley said.

DPS is continuing its investigation into the accident, Brandley said.

The report was released Tuesday afternoon.
