Rockport is one of the winners of the Best Coastal Small Town category in 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest, sponsored by USA Today.

Rockport came in as the No. 2 ranked spot in the nation, trailing only Sandusky, Ohio. Each nominee had a population of fewer than 25,000 people.

“We are ecstatic to be chosen as Number 2 in this category,” says Sandy Jumper, vice president of marketing and promotion for the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. “Throughout the contest, we jumped from 14th to third and fluctuated between the top 2 spots for the last week. It was through the consistent support of our visitors, our community, the Coastal Bend, and the State of Texas, we received this honor.

“This is the third time we have made the 10 Best List for Best Coastal Small Town in the U.S. We were chosen in the Top 5 in 2015 and 2016.”

The winners offer uncrowded and affordable attractions and accommodations. Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of relevant experts including a combination USA Today editors; other editors from 10Best.com; and relevant expert contributors. All voting is digital and the 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest is accessible on the 10Best.com website.

Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Chamber President/CEO, Diane Probst is thrilled with her town’s honor.

“These awards and accolades prove tourism is one of the driving factors for the local economy,” Probst said.

Other accolades received from USA Today’s 10Best in the Rockport-Fulton area include: Rockport Beach receiving top Beach in Texas in 2018 and Aransas National Wildlife Refuge receiving awards for Best Birding site and Best National Wildlife Refuge in recent years.
