Corpus Christi police were called after an explosion rocked an Annaville neighborhood on Mother’s Day.

The explosion happened in the backyard of a home in the 10000 block of Kingsbury Drive off of Mckinzie Road 1:25 p.m. Sunday.

According to Lieutenant Robert Alvarado, with the Corpus Christi police department, someone detonated explosive material inside of a plastic dog house. He added there was no animal inside of the dog house when it exploded.

Neighbors at the scene reported to KRIS 6 News they heard the explosion at least several blocks away.

Lt. Alvarado said members with the Corpus Christi Bomb Squad will inspect if there is another explosive material left at the scene.

Police said they arrested a man near the explosion site but he was taken in on an unrelated charge. Detectives are still gathering evidence to see if charges could be upgraded this week.
