Party in a toga and help Triumph Over Kids Cancer (TOKC) – officially rain or shine
The 13th annual Triumph Over Kid Cancer Toga Party is this Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.at 4126 Ocean Drive. Due to the weather this year’s James A Ragan, Triumph Scramble has been canceled due to the rain, but the rest of the event is officially rain or shine.
This year features a live band, a night of dancing, scrumptious finger food from Venetian Hot Plate, silent and live auctions and seeing prominent people in your community in togas & cowboy boots.
Tickets are $150 per person. Proceeds from both events fund research into pediatric cancer and support kids with cancer.
The Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation, or TOKC for short, is dedicated to improving the lives of children with cancer by raising their spirits, raising the public’s awareness, and funding research to improve the treatment and survivability of pediatric cancers.
James Ragan, founder of TOKC, started the Toga party 13 years ago.
James was about to celebrate his 14th birthday, while undergoing cancer treatment for Osteosarcoma, and said he couldn’t think of anything he wanted, so he threw a Toga party. Instead of gifts, James asked friends to donate $50.00. He raised $40,000.
The money was split between Driscoll Children’s Hospital and MD Anderson, and TOKC’s Toga Party was born.
Those who remain at the toga party as Saturday night seeps into Sunday morning are rewarded with Whataburger breakfast burritos and Gates donuts. No one leaves at 11:30.
TOKC’s Toga Party is one of two signature fundraisers for the non-profit, which raises money that goes directly to fund pediatric cancer research.
So wear your best toga, cowboy/cowgirl boots and come celebrate while helping a great cause.
