A traffic accident near Freer this morning has left one person dead and sent three to the hospital.
According to Texas Highway Patrol Sgt. Nathan Brandley, the accident happened on State Highway 59 just west of Freer at about 6 a.m. Friday.
Brandley says a pickup truck, traveling west, was trying to pass an unmarked Border Patrol vehicle and went into the east bound lane of Highway 59, striking a Toyota SUV.
The pickup then rolled across the westbound lane, landed upright in a ditch and caught fire.
The Border Patrol vehicle also hit the east bound SUV.
The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene, and Brandley says DPS Troopers are trying to identify the driver and truck.
The driver of the SUV suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, a passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Both were transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital in Alice.
The Border Patrol agent was unharmed, but was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
