A fire last night in a garage apartment on the city’s west side spread to several structures before crews was able to get it under control.

Corpus Christi firefighters arrived at the blaze near the intersection of Buford and Bluntzer Streets at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“When we arrived the garage apartment was on fire, the car in front of it was on fire, the tree next to it was on fire, the patio of the neighbors place was catching on fire, as was the fence,” said CCFD Battalion Chief Jim DeVisser.

Devisser says the home where the fire started was vacant and boarded up.

No one was injured, and CCFD says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
