EASTER SUNRISE PLAY
For many people, Easter means one thing: hunting for eggs and candy to fill their Easter basket.
For others, it is about celebrating the biblical story of Jesus’ resurrection and that is what the Easter Sunrise Passion Play intends to do.
On Easter Sunday, residents of Corpus Christi, which translates to “body of Christ”, will get a chance to witness the portrayal of the Easter story of Jesus’ rise from the dead as the sun rises over Cole Park.
The Easter Sunrise Passion Play will cover the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus for the 77 annual live performance.
This play, that has been a South Texas standing tradition since 1942, will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 21 (Easter Sunday) at the Cole Park Amphitheater.
Organizers of the annual event are still looking for more volunteers to act as angels and soldiers and are asking those who are interested to come to the dress rehearsal the Saturday before the Easter Sunday production.
The last rehearsal will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
