New CCPD officer fired from department after arrest for driving drunk, causing crash

A Corpus Christi Police officer has been arrested after being accused of driving drunk and crashing into another car.

According to Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Michael Pena, 32-year old Elise Tamez was driving down the 3500 block of South Padre Island Drive around 8 p.m. Sunday when she hit another vehicle. The driver in the other vehicle was not injured and there was minor damage to their vehicle.

Officers said when they arrived they noticed Tamez was intoxicated. After her arrest on driving while intoxicated charges, she was taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken to the City Detention Center.

According to Nueces County jail officials, Tamez’ bond was set at $1,000. She was released from jail this morning.

Pena was unsure how long Tamez has been with the department but he stated she is listed as a probationary officer in training. According to the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Facebook page, Tamez graduated from the department’s 77th Police Academy on Feb. 8.

There’s no word yet on the status of her employment with the Corpus Christi Police Department.
