Nearby residents detail concerns about STX Beef processing plant

People who live near STX Beef have expressed some concerns about the processing plant.

They voiced those comments last night during a hearing by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

It’s part of the process for STX Beef to get its air quality permit renewed.

Residents complained about bad odors and waste materials on the roads leading into the facility.

They say that’s affecting air quality in the area.

They urged the TCEQ to investigate their complaints before it renews the permit

“We need to broaden the scope of this to include everything that causes odors and as well as the physical mess on the roadways,” nearby resident Paul Hickey said. “And we need the businesses but we need to be good neighbors.”

A TCEQ representative tells us that recent complaints have prompted the agency to add several new requirements for permit renewals.
