A public hearing is the first step in the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality permitting process. In this case it’s a discharge permit for the Port of Corpus Christi’s desalination plant, to be located on Harbor Island.

Community members from Rockport, Portland and Port Aransas showed up in numbers Monday night, filling a large room for the public hearing and one by one, people told TCEQ why they don’t want the discharge permit approved for the desalination plant. Most people were concerned about where the brine from the desalination plant is to be discharged.

We are listening to those concerns and we’ll tell you what those residents had to say coming up later today on KRIS6 News.
