A Flour Bluff student was among 40 finalists out of 4,000 for the Treasures of the Texas Calendar Contest.
Gloria Harris, a ten-year-old at Flour Bluff Elementary, is quite an accomplished artist for her age.
She has been making art for as long as she can remember, and has saved drawings from when she was as young as two years old. She also manages to take commissioned art projects on her spare time.
“In my 23 years of teaching, I can’t remember ever having been so inspired by the creative process or fierce desire to learn of a child,” Nancy Tyler, an art teacher at Flour Bluff Elementary says.
A few of her achievements include getting a perfect score at a U.I.L. Project Bases Art competition in Gregory Portland, a gold medal in Art Smart to help her 4th-grade team get sweepstakes, and most recently, Gloria was a top 40 finalist in the2019 Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest. Out of the 4,000 entries in the contest, Gloria’s was the only one from the Coastal Bend to be a finalist.
Her parents, Elizabeth and Caleb Harris, her school, and our community is very proud of her.
